Hospice Personal Care
Assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
A key aspect of personal care in hospice is helping patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). These are essential daily tasks that many patients may find increasingly difficult to perform as their illness progresses. Hospice aides provide assistance with:
Bathing and Hygiene: Home health aides help patients with bathing, grooming, and maintaining personal hygiene. This includes tasks such as brushing teeth, combing hair, and assisting with toileting, which may be challenging for patients who have lost mobility or strength.
Dressing and Toileting: Nurses and aides assist with dressing patients and ensure they are comfortable and clean. They also assist with toileting needs, which may involve using bedpans or providing help with incontinence care.
Mobility and Positioning: As patients may experience difficulty moving, hospice staff assist with repositioning them to prevent bedsores and help with transfers, such as moving from a bed to a chair or wheelchair. This ensures that patients are comfortable and protected from additional physical complications.
In addition to personal care hospice provides Incontinence supplies and Durable Medical Equipment such as:
- Hospital Bed
- Bed Side Commode
- Bed Side Table
- Shower Chair
- Wheelchair
- Walker
- Oxygen
- Nebulizer
